People looking to buy a crossover SUV are simultaneously in luck and overwhelmed. There are so many options to choose from that companies are tripping over themselves to make the best product at the lowest price. However, the result of this is market oversaturation. When every auto company offers somewhere between three and six different crossovers and SUVs variants, finding the one the is right for you is much harder than it needs to be.
Today, we’ll be comparing 2020 Mazda CX-30 and the 2020 Toyota C-HR to see which compact crossover is best for you.

The 2020 CX-30 Premium has the dynamic i-ACTIV AWD system as a standard feature. While not every trim of CX-30 has it as standard feature, it is available on every trim. So, whether you live some whether like sunny San Juan Capistrano, CA, rainy Seattle, or snowy Chicago, you have a choice of which drivetrain is better for you. The 2020 Toyota C-HR, on the other hand, has no available AWD system. At all. On any trim. That may not be a big deal for city drivers, but for anyone else, this can be the deciding factor.
The 2020 CX-30 is perhaps the best handling compact crossover on the market. Steering maneuvers are responsive, but appropriately weighted. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine gives the CX-30 excellent acceleration and throttle response. The refined six-speed automatic is the same one that’s used in all the Mazda lineup. That is to say, it’s brilliant; it’s efficient, smooth, and eager. The 2020 C-HR doesn’t come close to the CX-30. It’s not that the C-HR is bad, per se. It’s just that it’s completely unremarkable. Where the CX-30 is fun to drive, the C-HR just drones along. It will get you where you need to go, but in any situation where you need some speed or power, all you’ll get is some disgruntled engine buzz and reluctant acceleration.
