The Mazda CX-30 is the newest addition to the Mazda lineup and (unsurprisingly) it’s been a huge hit. It takes much of what makes its bigger CX-5 and CX-9 siblings so good and scales those qualities down to a slightly smaller package. But what exactly does the CX-30 borrow from the CX-5 and CX-9? Well, let’s take a look.
Today, we’ll be comparing features from the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Preferred and Premium trims to help you decide which model is right for you.
Every 2020 Mazda CX-30 is powered by the 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine. It puts out 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic. FWD is standard, with AWD available on all trims. The Preferred and Premium share more than just a powertrain with the lower trims, though. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, proximity keyless entry, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster display, and an 8.8-inch infotainment screen carry over to the higher trims. Safety-wise, the Preferred and Premium have every feature on lower trims, including forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, among others.
The Preferred trim upgrades the comfort and connectivity in equal measure. It has the synthetic leather upholstery from the Select trim, but gains heated front seats and eight-way power-adjustability with memory settings for the driver. The sound system gets a huge upgrade too, going from the standard eight-speaker one to a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system. The newly added satellite radio sounds great on the new Bose stereo.
The Premium trim is all about luxury. The synthetic upholstery is switched out for genuine leather. The new seating arrangement pairs nicely with a standard moonroof. The driving experience—which was exceptional to begin with—is even more engaging thanks to paddle shifters. On the tech side of things, the Premium trim gets a heads-up display and adaptive headlights.
