The Mazda CX-5 has always been one of the finest-looking crossover SUVs. One glance at it and you know this is a sophisticated, stylish ride. There had long been speculation about whether or not the Mazda CX-5 would ever have a Diesel engine. Could that finally be happening?
It sure is happening. The 2019 Mazda CX-5 can be equipped with a diesel engine with the top-of-the-line Signature trim. The 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature SKYACTIV®-D comes standard i-ACTIV® AWD and averages up to 30 highway mpg. The interior is loaded with high quality features only available on the Signature trim like LED lighting, layered wood trim, and Caturra brown Nappa leather seating.
What’s the big deal about this diesel engine anyway? Why are people excited about it? Well, diesel engines are almost always more efficient than regular gasoline ones. They generate more power from less fuel because of their higher compression rating. Diesel fuel may be more expensive, but it is more efficient. Diesel-powered vehicles also tend to have lower taxes attached to them because they have better emission ratings.
The Mazda CX-5 Signature SKYACTIV®-D also has greater torque and may require less maintenance than the standard model. Diesel engines usually have greater lifespans and don’t need as much upkeep because they lack a spark-style ignition system. Instead, they use compressed hot air to ignite the fuel.
